About the Race

When does the race begin?

The 2 mile race will start at 9:15am.  The 5 mile race will start at 10:00am.

 

Where does the race begin?

The race will start and finish near the Church on the Detroit Avenue bridge.

 

What distances are available?

Distance options include a 2 mile race and a 5 mile race.  Both events are timed.

 

Are there age restrictions at this event?

No, all ages are invited to participate.  Children in strollers may participate free; all other children must be individually registered.

 

How is this race timed?

Both races will be B-tag chip timed.  This method provides a disposable timing chip on the back of your race bib.  There is no need to return your bib or chip after the race.

 

Where can I see my results?

Race results will be posted LIVE to both the GCXC and St Malachi Church Run websites.  Individual results will be posted and available within minutes of crossing the finish line. Results will also be available at the Mulberry's post-race party.

 

Are there pacing restrictions or a course cutoff time?

There are no course restrictions or cutoff times.  All participants are welcome to take either course at their own pace (running, walking, or a combination).  Please note that participants walking at a considerably slower pace than the bulk of participants may be asked to move to the sidewalks at police discretion to allow city streets to reopen.

 

Registration Questions

How do I register for this event?

You can register online with a credit card HERE.  If you would like to mail payment instead (cash/check), you can download a registration form HERE.  Please make checks payable to GCXC and mail to: 8791 Mentor Ave, Mentor OH 44060.  Registration is also available in-person at any packet pickup time/location (TBA) and on race morning at St Malachi Church.

 

How much does it cost to participate?

Early Bird Registration (through 12/31) - $30

Pre-Registration (1/1-3/9) - $35

Packet Pickup Week Registration (3/10-3/13) - $40

Race Day Registration (3/14) - $45

 

Is it safe to register online with a credit card?

Yes.  GCXC uses Athlinks’ Chronotrack registration system for online registration, which provides safe and secure payment processing.  Your payment information will be protected by Chronotrack.  Your personal information will be protected by GCXC and St Malachi Parish; we collect this information to ensure we are able to provide you with the best possible race day experience, and will never sell or share your information with any third party.

 

Is there a processing fee for registering online?

Yes, Chronotrack registration includes a small credit card processing fee.  This fee goes directly to Chronotrack and allows them to continue providing top-quality online registration services; this money is not collected by GCXC nor St Malachi Parish.

 

Can I register my whole family/group at once?

Yes.  When registering online, you are able to add additional registrations to your cart before checking out.  If registering through the mail, please complete ONE FORM PER PERSON.  We require a waiver signed for each participant; incomplete registration forms will not be processed.

 

I did not receive a confirmation email, how do I know I am registered?

You can check your Athlinks account for ALL your currently registered races by signing in HERE.  If you are having any issues accessing your Athlinks account, you can verify your registration by emailing GCXC at: kelly@gcxcracing.com

 

What do I get with my registration?

In addition to being a part of one of Cleveland’s oldest and greatest running traditions, all registered participants will receive an event shirt (a $25 value), B-tag chip timing, on-course entertainment, entry to the post-race party at Mulberry’s and the first Great Lakes Brew beer is on us.

I would like to change race distances, am I able to do so?

Yes, you can change your distance.  If you have not yet picked up your packet, you can change your distance via your Athlinks registration account by clicking HERE.  If you have already picked up your packet and want to change, please visit race day registration and ask for assistance there.

 

I can no longer participate in this event, what are my options?

You are able to transfer your registration to another person by clicking HERE; there is no fee to transfer.  Find your registration in your Athlinks account to find transfer instructions.  No refunds or deferrals are available for this race.

 

I am registered but unable to attend, can I still get my shirt?

Yes, you are able to pick up your items at any of the packet pickups prior to race day.  After the event, arrangements may be made to pick up at a Second Sole store depending on shirt size availability.  We DO NOT mail shirts.  Please contact GCXC if you would like to schedule a post-race pickup: kelly@gcxcracing.com

Do the shirts run true to size?

Yes, they run true to size for a standard t-shirt.

When is the deadline for long sleeve shirts?

Monday, March 11 at 11:59pm.

Packet Pickup Information

Will packet pickup be available before the race?

Yes, packet pickups will be held at the following locations.

- Tuesday (3-10): Second Sole Mentor: 11am - 7pm 

- Wednesday (3-11): Second Sole Lyndhurst: 3pm - 7pm

- Thursday (3-12): Second Sole Lakewood: 11am - 7pm 

- Friday (3-13): Mullberry's: 4pm - 7pm

- Saturday: race morning at St. Malachi
  2 Mile: 7:30am - 9:00am
  5 Mile: 7:30am - 9:30am

I am not able to make it to a pre-race pickup, can I get my packet on race day?

Yes, race day registration and packet pickup will take place at St Malachi Church starting at 7:30am.

Can I register at packet pickup?

Yes, you can register in person at a packet pickup with cash or check.  Please note, online registration will still be open during packet pickups - if you would like to register with a credit card, please do so online.

I picked up my packet in advance, but lost or forgot my bib on race day, what do I do?

A new bib can be assigned to you on race morning, please attend race-day registration to receive a new bib.

Race Day Logistics

Where can I park on race day?

Several parking areas are available on race day, please check our Parking page for more info.

Will there be bathrooms/portos available?

Yes, portos will be available at the start/finish line.  No bathrooms will be provided on the course.

 

Are there water stops/aid stations along the course?

Yes, there will be one water stop along the 5 mile route.

 

Can I run with my stroller?

Yes, strollers are allowed.  Please consider your pace when lining up for the start - slower runners and walkers to the rear for your safety and the safety of all participants.

 

Can I run with my dog?

For the safety of you, your dog, and other runners, we encourage dogs not to be in attendance at the St Malachi Church Run.

 

Can I wear headphones on the course?

Yes, headphones are allowed on the course.  Please be courteous to runners around you: keep your volume low enough that you are able to hear passers or any course instructions given by volunteers.

 

Will there be bag check?

No, bag check will not be available at the race.  Please DO NOT leave items inside St Malachi facilities; the church will not be open after registration and the safety of your items cannot be guaranteed.

 

I won an award but was unable to stay to claim it, what are my options?

Unclaimed awards can be picked up at a Second Sole store in Northern Ohio by arrangement only.  Please contact GCXC to make arrangements: kelly@gcxcracing.com

 

Will race photos be available?

Yes, race day photos will be available on Facebook for FREE after the race! Generally in a few posts.  Finish line photos will be posted and automatically tagged with your bib number on your Athlinks results page.
